  • Will my unused credits roll over?
    Yes, your credits will rollover month to month. Keep in mind though – you can only roll over a maximum of 2X your subscription limit. For example: If you have a 34 credit per month plan and you have 2 months worth of rollover credits, you'll have a total of 68 credits to use before your next billing cycle starts. Once your next billing cycle starts, you'll go back to your original credit amount of 34 credits per month.
  • If I cancel my subscription, will my credits expire?
    Nope! Your account will remain active up until your next scheduled billing date, and you'll have until then to use any remaining credits left on your account. For example, if you are billed on the 20th of each month and request cancellation on November 1st, your last date to use your MoviePass credits would be on November 19th. ​ For more info on how the MoviePass credits work, click here.
  • How do I gift MoviePass?
    MoviePass offers gift subscriptions for both new and existing users at three price points: $60, $120, and $240. Gift subscriptions are available for purchase by anyone – whether or not you have a subscription – so everyone can give the gift of movie magic! ​ You can buy the gift of MoviePass directly in the app. Just download the app on iOS or Android, head to account tab, select "Purchase Gift" and the subscription amount you’d like to give. Enter the recipient’s email address, and we’ll send a gift notification with a unique promo code to their inbox. Don’t want to spoil the surprise? Email the gift notification to yourself at check-out, and forward the email to your recipient when you’re ready to share that MoviePass magic. ​ If you have any more questions about the nitty gritty or just want to chat, feel free to chat with us directly in the app. Our agents are available from 11am-11pm EST – we're here to help.
  • What if I have money left over on my gift card after applying it to an annual subscription plan?
    Any remaining balance on the gift card after applying it to an annual plan can be used to purchase additional months of subscription.
  • How do I know which plan is for me?
    MoviePass offers a variety of different plans at a tiered price level and each plan earns you a different amount of credits each month. Whether you're a movie fanatic who goes to the theater as often as possible or if you want to use MoviePass just to catch a new blockbuster every now and then – we've got a plan that works for you! ​ Our plan prices and credit amounts vary depending on location, you can download the app for free to review your local plan options and see showtimes near you + their credit value. Once you're ready to get MoviePass, just hit join and pick a plan that fits your needs.
  • I don't see my favorite theater listed on your app or website.
    We have over 4,000 theaters in our network and we're still growing. If you don't see your favorite theater listed on our app, no worries – send us an email with the name and address of the theater you’d like to see added to our network and we’ll take care of the rest. Adding a new theater can take a little bit of time, so please be patient! Our team is working on it. : )

  • How do I use the virtual card?
    New MoviePass users will receive a virtual card at sign up – which means you can start going to the movies right away! ​ The virtual card activates at sign up, and you can use your virtual card just like any other virtual debit or credit card to purchase tickets online or through your favorite ticketing app or platform. Simply pull up the card details under “My Card” on the MoviePass app and enter the card number at checkout. You can also copy and paste the card number directly from the app for easy buying. Currently virtual cards are only available for new users, but our team is hard at work getting virtual cards set up for our legacy users – so keep an eye on more exciting updates coming soon! ​ If you're a new user with a virtual card and would like to request a physical card, please contact us using the chat in your MoviePass app.
  • Can I book tickets in advance online?
    With the online purchasing option, you can purchase a ticket hours in advance of your desired showtime. For example, you can check in and purchase a ticket for an evening movie in the morning. No need to rush to the theater before showtime to pick up your ticket! ​ You'll still need to check in before you purchase your ticket, but now you can do so from the comfort of your home or on the go as you’re planning your day (or your night!).   • How do I check in to a movie?
    Checking in to a movie on the MoviePass app is super easy. Just follow the steps below to unlock your card and purchase your ticket, either online or at the theater: Select the showtime you’d like to see at the theater of your choice. Confirm whether you're buying your ticket online or at the theater. Click “Unlock Your Card” (your reservation will be valid for 2 hours). Use your MoviePass card like an ordinary debit or credit card to buy online, through your favorite ticketing platform or app, or in person, at the box office. Enjoy the show! If you run into any issues checking in to a movie or getting your ticket, you can reach out to MoviePass support directly in the app – we’re always here to help.
  • How do I buy more credits?
    If you're running low on credits and need to top off your total before your subscription renewal date, you can buy more credits at any time directly in the app. Go to the “Account” tab in the MoviePass app, click the “Buy More Credits” option, and select the credit bundle that works for you. So long as the payment method on file with us is working and up to date, you’ll be charged right away and these additional credits will be deposited immediately into your account. ​ These credit bundles are a one-time charge and won't disrupt your current billing cycle. Please note that these credits are subject to the same rollover rules as regular credits. MoviePass users can only have up to 2 months worth of credits in their account at one time and any additional unused credits will expire on the date of your next subscription biling date.
  • Can I change from an annual plan to a monthly plan?
    No, once you purchase an annual plan you cannot switch to a monthly plan during your active subscription period. You can change at the end of your subscription period.

  • If I move to a different state will it impact how my annual subscription works?
    Regardless of where you move, your existing plan will remain in effect until the renewal date.
  • Can I change annual plans before my current annual plan ends?
    No, you cannot switch between annual subscription plans (e.g., from Annual Basic to Annual Standard) during your active subscription period
  • Which plans are eligible for the annual subscription?
    The following plans are all eligible for an annual subscription: Annual Basic Plan, Annual Standard Plan and Annual Premium Plan. In other words, every plan can be purchased as an annual subscription. Get started by clicking here.
  • What happens to my credits if I cancel my annual subscription?
    If you cancel your annual subscription, whatever credits are currently in your account will remain until the end of your subscription period. Additionally, you will continue to accrue more credits until the end of your subscription period.
  • Can I apply a giftcard to purchase an annual subscription?
    Yes! A gift card can be applied toward an annual subscription in the following ways: Redeem the full value of the gift card for a full-year subscription, and add a credit card to the app for any additional credit purchases. Apply the gift card value towards part of the subscription cost, and use a credit card to pay the remaining balance.
  • What is the benefit of purchasing an annual subscription?
    Annual plans are discounted when compared to monthly plans. In other words, you will get 12 months worth of credits for less than 12 months of cost. Actual pricing might vary but you can see specifics in the “Plans” section of the website or when you sign up through the app.
  • Can I cancel my annual plan and get a refund for any remaining months?
    No, a refund is not available on an annual subscription if you decide to cancel early. You received MoviePass's best value plan by signing up for a year, so rather than cancelling, we suggest you use your credits and go to the movies!
  • Can I pause my annual subscription?
    The pause feature is not available for annual subscription plans
  • Can I cancel my annual plan subscription?
    Yes, you can cancel your annual subscription. Canceling means you will still have full usage of your membership until the subscription end date, but you will not renew for another year.
  • Do credits expire with an annual subscription?
    Just like the monthly plan, you can only have up to two months worth of credits on your account at any time.
  • Can I use my Mastercard discount when I purchase an annual subscription?
    Unfortunately, the Mastercard promotional discount cannot be applied to annual subscriptions
  • Do annual subscription customers get all credits in a lump amount or are they allocated monthly?
    Subscribers that choose an annual plan will receive credits monthly, just like our monthly plans.
  • How do I change my monthly plan to an annual plan?
    To switch to an annual plan, simply go to the MoviePass app, click on the “Account” icon in the app (lower right corner), then click on Subscription > Change Plan > Annual Plan Choice at the top of the page. The available annual plan options will be presented.
  • Who is eligible to purchase an annual subscription?
    Any new, or returning customer can purchase an annual subscription. Existing monthly subscription customers can change to an annual subscription.
  • How do credits rollover if I have an annual subscription?
    There are no changes to the existing credit rollover rules. Unused credits will continue to roll over monthly and you can have up to two months of credits in your account at any given time.
  • Will my annual plan renew automatically?
    Annual subscriptions automatically renew at the end of the 12-month period at the full annual plan price without discounts, unless canceled prior to renewal.

    You might think you know the story of MoviePass, but chances are you don't.. We could give you all the corporate gobbledygook our lawyers told us to say, but you deserve to know what really went down.... ​ Stacy Spikes and Hamet Watt co-founded MoviePass to help movie lovers save money and fill the empty seats in theaters in 2012. The idea took off, the theaters were buzzing, and personal attendance rose by a staggering 111% on average! Fast forward to 2017, HMNY, a private equity group, acquired MoviePass with a new CEO at the helm. They dropped the price to $9.95/month for unlimited movies in hopes of gaining 100,000 subscribers in six months. It took 48 hours. As millions of you subscribed, everyone had the same thought: How could a business selling unlimited movie tickets for less than $10/month make money? The short answer - it can’t. Stacy and Hamet were both ousted from the company for not agreeing to go along with the plan. Despite Stacy’s repeated warnings that the new pricing was unsustainable, HMNY pressed on until they were burning through more than $40 million per month, according to Business Insider. HMNY turned to increasingly “fraudulent tactics” in hopes of staying afloat. HMNY (and therefore MoviePass) went bankrupt in less than two years, and their owners are now facing criminal charges. Inspired by an outpouring of support from MoviePass fans, Stacy bought MoviePass out of bankruptcy and relaunched earlier this year. Now, the original rebels of cinema subscription are back and over 800,000 of you are leading the comeback journey. ​
  • What kind of movies are included in my membership?
    You can currently see most 2D movies with your MoviePass subscription, but we'll be rolling out access to large format & premium screens very soon– so make sure to follow us on socials and subscribe to our mailing list for early access to all the info on future product updates!
  • How many movies can I see in a month?
    You’ll be able to see up to 7 movies a month based on your area and the plan you choose. If you're an avid movie-goer or if you only make it to the theater to catch the newest blockbuster release from your favorite studio, we created a plan just for you.   • How do I cancel my subscription?
    You can cancel your subscription at any time – no strings attached. Just go to the “Account” tab in the app, select “Subscription”, and click “Cancel Subscription”. Your subscription will be canceled, but you’ll still have credits available to use until the end of your next billing cycle at which point those credits will expire. For example, if you cancel your subscription on the 5th with 30 credits in your account and your subscription renews on the 19th, you'll have until the 18th to use your remaining credits before they expire. ​ You can restart your subscription at any time by logging into the app and selecting the "Join" button in the top right hand corner of your home screen.
  • How do I manage my account?
    Users can manage their MoviePass account directly in the app. Just click into the “Account” tab on the far right of your screen. There, you can review your personal info, subscription details, your credit total, your reservation history, and the payment method on file. The "Account" page is also where you can buy more credits and view your virtual card. ​ For instructions on how to update or change your subscription plan, click here. Need to update your payment method? Open the app, head to the Account tab, and select Payment Methods.
  • How do I change my subscription plan?
    You can upgrade or downgrade your subscription plan at any time directly in the app. Simply click into the “Account” tab and select “Subscription”. Once you select “Change Plan”, you’ll see a menu of all the available plans in your area. If you’re upgrading your plan, you’ll pay the difference now and receive your credits immediately. If you’re downgrading your plan, you’ll start paying the new plan price and receive your credits on your next billing cycle. So long as your payment info is up to date, you can upgrade or downgrade your plan as needed!
  • Can I pause my subscription?
    Can I pause my account? Yes. As long as your account is in good standing you can pause your account. How do I pause my account? Simply click on the “account” icon on the app (lower right corner), click on “subscriptions” and then click “pause”. How long will my account be paused? Your account will initially be set to pause for two months. If you would like to stop the pause sooner, just go to “account” icon on the app (lower right corner), click on “subscriptions” and then click “unpause”. Can I pause my account for as long as I want? No, your account will be paused for two months. You can unpause your account whenever you like. How can I unpause my account before two months? In order to unpause, go to “account” icon on the app (lower right corner), click on “subscriptions” and then click “unpause”. How often can I pause my account? You can pause your account two times per year. Can I pause my account consecutively? No. After a two month pause, a member must pay for a month before pausing again. What happens to my credits while my account is paused? Nothing. Your credits balance will remain the same during the time your account is paused. Can I buy credits while my account is paused? Yes. Simply click on the “account” icon on the app (lower right corner), click on “credits” and then click on the credit package you would like. Will I be notified before the pause period ends? Yes. You will receive an email 2 days before your account will be re-activated. Can I use my credits while my account is paused? Absolutely! You can continue to use your MoviePass credits while your subscription is paused.
